DVD-R/W Lifespan

One of my DVD-R/W discs went bad yesterday; it gave me several record errors when I tried to edit a track and finalize the disc on my DVD recorder. I thought they were able to withstand ~1,000 format/write cycles but this one didn't last that long. At most, it was probably used 2-3 times per week (format/record) for the past 4 months... that's not even 5% of the rated life.

Lame. I wish they had a video tuner/recorder that writes to a USB memory stick or some other solid state memory.

read write disks always screw up, I am in the video business and never use them, anytime someone has sent one in they fail to read, use dvd-r

it is possible they had Chengdu's materials in them. i'm not surprised. the discs got so cheap that you get what you pay for. most manufacturers also bank on the fact that you probably won't go to the trouble to return the substandard product.

It was a Sony branded DVD+RW but who knows where they got it from.

all the big guys (Sony, Verbatim, Maxell, Yamaha, etc.) contract out their disc production to manufacturers in mainly Taiwan. i would guess the discs actually made by sony might have better quality
